Thursday, June 18, 2020 - Skytower: Canada's tallest residential tower

For years, rumours have been swirling about the addition of a soaring residential tower to Toronto’s skyline, and now it’s finally official: SkyTower by Pinnacle International is set to become Canada’s tallest residential building (for now, at least) at a towering 95 storeys (or 313 metres).

Designed by the award-winning Hariri Pontarini Architects, SkyTower will offer its residents incredible views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline from its 800+ condominium suites. The suites themselves are to be designed by the award-winning Tanner Hill and Associates, and available in a variety of timeless and contemporary layouts ranging from 520 to 7,000+ (!) square feet—with prices starting at more than$800,000.

SkyTower is the second in a series of three residential towers that will round out Pinnacle’s One Younge, 4.4 million square-foot master-planned community in the heart of Toronto-–it follows The Prestige, a 65-storey condo with expected occupancy in 2022 (details on the third tower haven’t been released yet). When all is said and done, the community will also feature 1.5 million square-feet of office space, 160,000 square-feet of retail, a 250-room hotel, a 50,000 square-foot community centre and a 2.5-acre public park.

“An iconic address like One Yonge demands an iconic architectural statement,” says Pinnacle’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Anson Kwok. “We knew this location demanded something elegant and distinctive.”

“Our approach to this phase, and the other elements of this master-planned development, was predicated on a commitment to not just merely add yet another condo to the downtown core. Instead, we recognized the unique privilege provided by this site to forever reshape the Toronto skyline.”

Situated in the heart of Toronto, SkyTower residents can take advantage of the many community amenities available to them, including access to the PATH System; a centralized park for public use; a 50,000 square-foot community centre which includes a six-lane, 25-meter indoor swimming pool; a full-size basketball court for you Raptors fans, and much more.

Thanks to its convenient location, there’s never been a better excuse for SkyTower residents to ditch their cars and get their steps in, as the condo is conveniently located within walking distance of everything you could possibly need:

Fun Facts

Five of Canada’s ten largest cities enforce height restriction laws for buildings.
In Ottawa, skyscrapers couldn’t be built above the height of the Peace Tower until the late 1970s, when the restriction was changed so that no building could overwhelm the skyline.
In Montreal, skyscrapers can’t exceed the elevation of Mount Royal (200 feet).
Vancouver has enacted “view corridors” which limit the height of buildings in most areas of downtown.
Edmonton had an elevation restriction, approximately 150 metres (492 feet) above downtown, due to the proximity of the city centre airport, until it closed in November 2013.
Saskatoon has a height restriction law which prohibits the construction of buildings over the height of 76 meters.
The tallest building currently in Canada is the First Canadian Place in Toronto. With a height of 978 feet and 72 floors, it’s also the third tallest free-standing structure in the country (surpassed only by the CN Tower and the Inco Superstack Chimney in Sudbury).
Of the 10 tallest buildings in Canada, the top six are located in Toronto.
